Bikeability Training in Schools - 3rd Year
Getting More of your Young People on their Bikes
The partnership has been successful in training ove 1000 young people (Year 5, 6 and 7) with “Bikeability” skills – the new national standard for cycle training in the last 15 months.
Following discussions with both Devon County Council and Local Authority partners we are keen to offer the opportunity to more young people for a third academic year (Sept 2010-Aug 2011).
The partnership has the following provisional training places available:
Autumn term: 300 (6th September to 22rd October)
Spring term: 200 (28th February to 8th April)
Summer term: 500 (26th April to 22rd July)
Training places will be allocated on a first come basis
The training is free to partnership schools with the young people currently receiving a high visibility vest, a certificate and badge on succesful completion of the course.
The 10 hour Bikeability training is best taught in groups of 6 or 12 young people with an instructor ratio of 1:6 pupils, the optimum delivery being 4 sessions of 2.5 hours. Training takes place in school initially and then onto the public highway as the group progresses.
We are very excited about this opportunity to help young people develop skills and independence, to promote safe sustainable ways of transport, to support school travel plans and most of all to support life-long participation in healthy active lifestyles.
