School Sports Coaches
EXCITING TIMES AHEAD FOR SPORTS OPPORTUNITIES IN NORTH DEVON SCHOOLS
The aim of the new National PE & Sport Strategy for Young People is to create a world class system for PE and sport for all children and young people which will stimulate, increase and sustain their participation in sport.
The School Sport Coaching programme is just one of 10 work strands which will enable the strategy to be delivered. The goal of the restructured School Sport Coaching programme is to direct the change in recruitment, training and deployment of sports coaches working in school sport and to increase the number of coaching hours delivered through school sport to 1,500 per year in the North Devon PEDPASS Partnership. The new approach is designed to capitalise on the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presented by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and to inspire more people to take part in and succeed in sport.
North Devon PEDPASS Partnership is working closely with each secondary school in the area to match their coaching needs to appropriate coaches who can deliver the sessions. The coaches will work in and alongside the School Sport Partnership infrastructure to support delivery of the 5 Hour Offer and run extra curricular sessions on a school site. The North Devon PEDPASS Partnership is looking for any sports coach that has, has had or is working towards a sports qualification to register an interest with them via their website.
The programme aims to address the shortage of high quality coaches, both professional and voluntary, and recognise coaching as a profession, with accredited qualifications and a real career-development structure and appropriate remuneration. Funding for the School Sport Coaching Programme is available to all School Sport Partnerships in excess of £21,000 per year over three years
